The Shortest Term of a Pregnancy
Question :
I was absent from my wife for a whole year and she did not know where I was. After a long time, I returned to her and remained with her for eight months and twenty-five days. She gave birth to a boy during this period of time when I was living with her and I was in doubt concerning the shortfall of five days from the ninth month. Advise me, what should I do?
Answer:
There is no occasion for doubt in a woman giving birth in less than nine months; and the shortest term of a pregnancy is six months, as Allah, Most Glorified says:
"And the bearing of him, and the weaning of him is thirty months"
and He, the Almighty, the All-Powerful says:
"and his weaning is in two years."
This proves that the shortest period of a pregnancy is six months, so if the woman gave birth in the seventh month or afterwards, then there is no doubt in that. And Allah is the Granter of success.
